Disease Control Department

Mandate:

promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury and disability.

The core functions of the department:

Health surveillance, monitoring and analysis
Investigation of disease outbreaks, epidemics and risk to health
Designing and establishing disease prevention programmes
Enabling and empowering communities to promote health and reduce inequalities
Creating and sustaining cross-Government and intersectoral partnerships to improve public health through disease prevention and control
Developing and maintaining a well-educated and trained, multi-disciplinary disease control workforce
Ensuring the effective performance of health services to meet goals in improving health and preventing disease.
Undertake operational research in order to develop development and evaluate innovations on disease control interventions
Quality assuring the disease control functions
