Mandate:

The core functions of the department:
- Health surveillance, monitoring and analysis
- Investigation of disease outbreaks, epidemics and risk to health
- Designing and establishing disease prevention programmes
- Enabling and empowering communities to promote health and reduce inequalities
- Creating and sustaining cross-Government and intersectoral partnerships to improve public health through disease prevention and control
- Developing and maintaining a well-educated and trained, multi-disciplinary disease control workforce
- Ensuring the effective performance of health services to meet goals in improving health and preventing disease.
- Undertake operational research in order to develop development and evaluate innovations on disease control interventions
- Quality assuring the disease control functions
